The exhibition combines the works of two talented Sydney artists. In ‘Test', David Skinner has interpreted a range of cricket images in oils on canvas, while Glenda Jones has produced portraits of Aboriginal men and women who have influenced us during the last 15 years in ‘Larger Than Life' - Portraits 1990-2006. ‘Test', presents a range of images of one of Australia's most famous Ashes victories. Each painting is based on photographic work taken from the television images transmitted during the games: This formed the basis for each of the painting's development. David Skinner explained that "using these elements has enabled me to produce images of the game removed from the one normally associated with the traditional memory of a test match". For Larger Than Life - Portraits 1990-2006, Glenda has drawn on a wide range of intriguing and outstanding individuals, who have achieved so much for the country, their community and our shared history. The range of identities include: Nova Peris-Kneebone, Kyle Vander Kype and Pat O'Shane. "This exhibition is a celebration of women and men who have retained a sense of purpose against all odds", Glenda Jones said. Linda Burney MLA, will open the exhibition on the evening of the 13th. The exhibition will be from 13th to the 24th of February, 2007, at the Mary Place Gallery, 12 Mary Place, Paddington. |
